Coupling of bone formation subsequent to bone resorption is a fundamental mechanism for sustaining bone density in adults. We have demonstrated that TGFβ1 released from the bone matrix during osteoclastic bone resorption induces the migration of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
